What Heat Resistant Means on a Safety Shoe
Heat resistance on a safety shoe is about the outsole: how hot a surface it can stand on without the sole melting or losing grip. EN ISO 20345 marks a sole that passes its contact heat test, at 300 degrees C for a short time, with HRO. Other soles are rated by the manufacturer to a stated temperature.
- Up to 300 degrees, Jogger: nitrile rubber outsole rated up to 300 degrees in the manufacturer catalogue, with the HRO marking, antistatic.
- HRO, Runner and Jumper: nitrile rubber outsoles with the HRO marking, antistatic.
- Up to 120 degrees C, 2205, 2206, 2213, 3302 and 3303: PU outsoles with heat resistance up to 120 degrees C, for general site, workshop and warehouse work.

In the UAE summer, asphalt, roofs and steel decks in direct sun get far hotter than the air. For roadworks, roofing, hot asphalt and work near welding and cutting, choose an HRO sole such as the Jogger, Runner or Jumper. For general site and warehouse work, the PU soles rated to 120 degrees C are the economical choice.
